At last Thursday’s meeting, we spoke about the First Communion preparations and celebrations, the programme for Lent, including the Lenten Talks and the Holy Week Ceremonies, and opportunities for Lenten Devotions. We spent some time in conversation about the Initiative for Lent, suggested by Pope Francis some years ago, which involves opening a church or churches in every diocese for a whole day. The Pope called it ‘24 Hours for the Lord’. Pope Francis leads this initiative in St Peter’s in Rome from Friday evening of the Third Week of Lent until the evening of Saturday of the Third Week of Lent. The focus is on giving an extended period of time for the Sacrament of Confession and on Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. More about this with the publication of our Parish Programme for Lent 2020 at the beginning of February.
