THE SACRED TRIDUUM

29th March                    HOLY THURSDAY        

The church will open for the beginning of the Sacred Triduum at 6.30pm

The Holy Water stoups will be empty and votive candles are unlit during the Triduum

7.30pm Mass of the Lord’s Supper

In this Mass we commemorate the New Commandment given by Christ, the Institution of the Priesthood and the Gift of the Eucharist

The Washing of the Feet and the Procession to the Altar of Repose form part of the ceremonies at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper.

11.00pm Night Prayer at the Altar of Repose (in the Oratory)

 

30th March                     GOOD FRIDAY (A Day of Fast and Abstinence)

3.00pm The Celebration of the Passion of the Lord

8.00pm The Easter Vigil in the Holy Night

The principal ceremony of the Church’s worship is celebrated in four stages:

 The Service of Light (Blessing of the Easter Fire and Lighting of the Paschal Candle)

 The Liturgy of the Word with Readings from the Book of Genesis, the Book of Exodus and the prophet Isaiah concluding with the letter to the Romans and the Easter account from the Gospel of Mark

Baptismal Liturgy Blessing of Water, Sacrament of Baptism, Renewal of Baptismal Promises and the Sacrament of Confirmation

The Liturgy of the Eucharist The newly baptised and the newly confirmed bring forward the bread and wine for the celebration of Mass

Please join us in the Parish Hall after the Easter Vigil for light refreshments
